Another Rare Moth in Derbyshire

A quite remarkable record of a Reddish Light Arches was trapped overnight (30th June/1st July 2023) in a garden moth trap in Sandiacre, just inside the Derbyshire boundary. It is the first modern day record, to my knowledge, since 1910, when the species disappeared from the southern lowland sites where it was classed as a scarce resident.

Since then it has been classified as extinct in the county, so either we now have a localised population in the Sandiacre area, or, could this specimen be a migrant, alternatively is this species expanding its range from other nearby counties? Either way, a superb record for our county Macro-moth list. Many thanks to Emily Louise Milnes, who trapped the moth and invited me to see it and photograph it this afternoon (1st July 2023).
