A second record for Derbyshire of Dark Crimson Underwing

The first record of Dark Crimson Underwing for VC57 Derbyshire was recorded by Nikki Mahadevan, when she trapped one in her Shirland garden on 11th August 2023. It was a remarkable record of a species that is confined to the New Forest, so the likely hood of it being a wandering migrant was highly likely. At the time it was thought to be a one off, that is until Martin Roome catches another one in his Chaddesden garden moth trap, overnight on 11/12th July 2025, an amazing record. With warm east, north easterly winds over the past few days, it is quite reasonable to assume that this individual could be a migrant from Northern Europe. A rather rusty brown looking individual, note the deeply waved cross-band on the hind wing.
