ID pointers: Can only be identified by Gen Det – Black head, bronzy brown/grey forewing with green tint. Pale yellow spot at base.

Flight Period: May /  June /  July /  August –  Two generations – May-June and July-Aug Mine Period:  June /  July /  September /  October
Mine Period Additional: Over winters as a pupae. Larvae are found in the leaves of oak from June to July and from September to October.
Mine ID Difficulty:  Amber Mine Leaf – Care required in ID process as confusion with similar leaf mines. Quality photos of the mine required.

Mine Comment: A long and winding sinuous mine filled with greenish frass, which turns brown with age. This specific frass pattern is a key identifier and helps distinguish it from similar species on oak. The mine meanders and widens gradually. The egg is on the upper surface on a vein.
