ID pointers: The moth is widespread across southern Britain and is susceptible to huge fluctuations in numbers. It has an overall creamy pale brownish forewing that is littered with a darker speckling. It sometimes shows a small dark spot on the dorsum and at the tornus. Shows a heavily tufted head. A very thin looking moth.
Distribution:
This appears to be a new species for the VC57 Derbyshire. A record that is mentioned on UK Moths from 1998 is being looked into but so far there is no confirmed data from any current source.
An adult was recorded from a garden light trap in Chaddesden on 29th July 2025 representing the first confirmed record. Another adult recorded at Shirland on 30th July 2026. Suspect this moth is overlooked as c100 leaf mines discovered on Bindweed at Gleadless Valley on 30th July 2026. On 1st August at least three more leaf mine sites were discovered in the Gleadless Valley. On 5th August leaf mines found at Markham Vale, North Tip

Mine Comment: The distinctive larvae feeds on Bindweeds during July-August and September. Firstly making a narrow gallery mine that is filled with frass. Then makes large translucent yellowish blotch mines, from here the frass is ejected. The science is interesting as the larvae make silken threads underneath the leaves in which they move around.
