– care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required. Confusion Species: Schoenobius gigantella (Giant Water-veneer);Donacaula forficella (Pale Water-veneer)
ID pointers: The females are paler and larger and both sexes have large long labial palps. Overall colour is a pale sometimes dark sandy-brown or straw-yellow and can be suffused darker.There is also a small blackish mark in the central area near the wing apex. Has a distinctive shape.
Distribution: (Last record: 15 September 2025 at Breaston ) – An uncommon species in the recording area with most records from the north east and south east corners of the county, being found in wet marshy locations where there are large reedbeds.
