Blue –  Generally Common / Widespread
Taxonomy:   Micro   >>  Tortricidae  >> Tortricinae
ID Difficulty:  amber  – care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required.
Confusion Species:  Acleris laterana (Dark-marked Tortrix)
ID pointers: A variable species that has several known forms – Feeds on wild and cultivated Strawberries and can be a pest in Strawberry fields. Has two large brown, orange-brown or dark brown costal triangular wedges on a bright orange-brown or creamy fawn brown forewing. Sometimes the triangular wedges meet at the dorsum.
Distribution:  Likely to be locally common – Most records are recorded as A.laterana/comariana aggregate due to the second brood over-lapping with A.laterana. DaNES list 22 records between 2004 – 2013. Over 200 accounts on iRecord are all recorded as aggregate.
General Comment: None
Flight Period: June /  July /  September /  October /  November –  Two broods – the first in June & July is before A.laterana but the second brood that flies in late August through to November overlaps and so would need to be recorded as aggregate or Gen Det. Moth Activity: Cathemeral   – and is attracted to light Photographed: No –  Photographed By: Not Recorded
*** Last updated on 2 October 2025 by RP ***
Wingspan: 13-18mm

Bedrock Geology ** indirectly affects moth distribution by influencing the type of habitat and food plants available in an area. In turn, this may affect the types of moths that can thrive, or where they can most likely be found.
