– Uncertain/Unknown – Insufficient Data
– Leaf Miner
– difficult to identify – detailed examination required, often a Gen Det and/or specimen and quality photographs are required.Confusion Species: Coleophora flavipennella (Yellow Oak Case-bearer)
Mine Period Additional: Over winters in larval case
Mine ID Difficulty:
– Care required in ID process as confusion with similar leaf mines. Quality photos of the mine required. Mine Type/s: Not Recorded
Mine Feeding Method/s: Case
Mine Comment: During the autumn the larvae live in a characteristic pear-shaped silken case. A key distinction from C. flavipennella is that C. lutipennella make their case entirely from Silk. The Larvae mine leaves from late September to October before overwintering. They typically overwinter by fixing their case in the axil of an oak bud. They resume feeding, creating a new case from April – May, often moving to oak catkins.

Bedrock Geology ** indirectly affects moth distribution by influencing the type of habitat and food plants available in an area. In turn, this may affect the types of moths that can thrive, or where they can most likely be found.
