Taxonomy:   Macro   >>  Noctuidae  >> Xyleninae
ID Difficulty:  green  – easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Ground colour is a deep straw yellow or orange-yellow with two orange-brown and “elbowed” cross-lines The oval and kidney marks are also outlined in orange-brown and are pale centred. The kidney mark having a dark spot within the trailing side.
Distribution:  (Last record: 6 September 2024 at Glossop )  –  A nationally scarce B species and possible immigrant. A resident that is scarce and locally distributed in Derbyshire. Our county lies just outside the principle areas of this species in the north midlands. It favours old ancient woodlands with heaths and mature birches, and the first Derbyshire record was in 2015.The species seems to be increasing its presence in the county, during 2019 – 2023 there were 37 records of 38 individuals from 27 sites. In 2023 alone, there were 22 records of 28 individuals from 20 sites.
