ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Fairly unmistakable and easy to see why it gets it’s name. A small white moth with dark grey or blackish grey broad cross band boarded either side with white. A greyish white oval and kidney mark. The leading edge of the forewing is very straight in appearance.
Distribution: A resident that is fairly common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. Generally common in all areas apart from the Peak Grit area. Numbers seem to fluctuate each year.
Flight Period: May / June / July / August / - On the wing May – August
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - and is attracted to light
