Confusion Species:  Bordered Straw; Scarce Bordered Straw
ID pointers: Distinguishing this species requires careful examination as it closely resembles pale forms of Bordered Straw (H.peltigera) and Scarce Bordered Straw (H.armigera) The forewing is a sandy grey brown, or yellow- brown with a contrasting wavy cross-band at two thirds and a thinner central cross-band at half. The best ID marker is the outer edge of the dark post-median band which is wavy with a distinct deep inward notch near the centre. A distinct row of black dots along the outer edge (termen) of the forewing and white peaked waved cross-line
Distribution:  (First record: 29 May 2026 at Findern )  –  (Last record: 30 May 2026 at Sandiacre )  –  A rare immigrant from Southern, Eastern Europe to Canary Islands. North Africa and the Middle East – An unprecedented influx of this species arrived in Britain during mid-end of May 2026. A first Derbyshire and VC57 record of one attracted to a garden MV light trap at Findern on 29th/30th May 2026.  Before the ink was dry a second record was recorded from Sandiacre on 30th May.
