- Rare / Uncommon / Scarce

ID pointers: One of a few “Thorns” that are very similar. The August Thorn can be distinguished by the shape of the cross-lines on the forewing. The inner line is noticeably curved, and the outer-line has a “kink” in it where it meets the leading edge.
Distribution: (Last record: August 2024 ) - A resident that is locally distributed and very scarce in Derbyshire. Easily confused with September Thorn. Very few records each year. There are currently 9 reported records between 2018 and the end of July 2024. Historical records show a similar trend, so this species has never been common in the county.
