ID Difficulty:
- easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Quite a variable species, with several named forms and subspecies, and the ground colour varying from yellowish to white. A net-work effect across the wings formed by cross-lines of brown and white, forming squares of colour.
Distribution: Although recorded from most area of Derbyshire, it is relatively uncommon and localised. The south of the county and the Coal Measures seem to be its stronghold.
Flight Period: May / June / July / August / September / - On the wing – May-June and July-September
Moth Activity: Nocturnal Diurnal - is diurnal but also active at night
