Taxonomy:   Macro  >>.  >>  Sesiidae  >> Sesiinae
ID Difficulty:  green  – easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Distinctive with an orange/yellow tail fan, 2 obvious narrow yellow bands on the abdomen, sometimes two or more indistinct bands,  otherwise the insect is a dark bluish-black. Black forewings and veins
Distribution:  (First record: 23 June 2026 at Kings Newton )  –  (Last record: 23 June 2026 at Kings Newton )  –  Nationally scarce B – A first record for VC57 Derbyshire when a single male was attracted to AND Lure at Kings Newton  on 23rd June 2026. Suspected to be established in the county but seldom seen without the use of pheromone lures AND and VES. The males come to the lures.
