Confusion Species: H. pruniana
ID pointers: Another bird dropping mimic. The basal two thirds of the forewing is dark brown or yellowish-brown, mixed with bluish-grey with a brown, sometimes yellow, scale tuft at base of head. The remaining third of forewing is a creamy white mottled with silvery grey and greyish-brown.
Distribution: Common and widespread across all areas of the county wherever there is Hawthorn.
Flight Period: June / July / August / - On the wing during June – August.
Moth Activity: Nocturnal Crepuscular - active from dusk and attracted to light

Food Plant: Hawthorn (Crataegus) and Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa).
