- easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Quite distinctive. Forewings are a pale orange-brown or reddish-brown, with chequered markings like tiny tiles (hence its name). Several cross-bands of light and dark orange brown and pale orange-brown. Intensity in colour can vary.
Distribution: Common in woodland areas across the county.
Flight Period: July / August / - On the wing during July – August.
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - and is attracted to light
