Confusion Species: Apple Leaf Skeletoniser
ID pointers: A small and triangular shaped moth at rest, standing proud on their legs. The forewings are a distinctive reddish-brown to ochre-brown, patterned with white and dark brown stripes and spots.
Distribution:
A first record for VC57 Derbyshire when one was recorded from Sandiacre on 9th July 2026. The species was first recorded in the Uk in 2014 when several larvae and cocoons were found on a Fig Tree in Hyde Park, London. Since then the species has spread to Kent, East Anglia and the Isle of Wight.
General Comment: A native to the Mediterranean, Asia and North Africa. The damage to Fig Trees is entirely driven by the caterpillar stage.
