Taxonomy:   Micro  >>  Nepticulidae Other Name/s: Broom Pigmy ID Difficulty:  Red - difficult to identify - detailed examination required, often a Gen Det and/or specimen and quality photographs are required.
Confusion Species: Trifurcula squamatella, Leucoptera spartifoliella
ID pointers: A very small, and one of the palest looking Nepticulid, with grey-white/ buff ground colour with dark-tipped scales, slightly darker mottling and yellowish head with white eyecaps
Distribution:  Uncertain due to insufficient data – 1 record prior to 2010 – no further recent records
Flight Period: June /  July /  August /  Mine Period: January /  March /  April /  May /  September /  October /  November /  December /   - Mines are found autumn over winter and then in spring March through May
The larva mines not in leaves, but under the bark of twigs of broom. The mine is visible as a dark gallery, but is easily confused with the similar mine of Leucoptera spartifoliella.
