Taxonomy:   Micro  >> . >>  Nepticulidae Other Name/s: Aspen Pigmy ID Difficulty:  Red - difficult to identify - detailed examination required, often a Gen Det and/or specimen and quality photographs are required.
ID pointers: The egg is usually found on the upper-side of the leaf besides a rib. The gallery is clear with broken linear frass and is a densely winding corridor. Found on Populus tremula (Aspen), Populus alba (White Poplar) and Populus canescens (Grey Poplar). Mine shown on Populus tremula (Aspen).
The adult is a tiny moth with blackish sooty-grey ground colour with several creamy white spots and creamy white cilia. An orange tufted head.
Distribution:  National Status – Local – Derbyshire status unknown, but likely to be locally common where there are Poplars and Aspen.
