ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: A long-winged moth with a distinct pale chalky-white spot in the central area of the forewing. The spot contains a prominent oval mark and a black outlined kidney mark just below it and on the outer edge. Other wise mottled grey, pale grey and black.
Distribution: A resident that is well distributed and generally locally common in Derbyshire. Less common in the south of the county with very few records despite being described as a common species in 1986.
Flight Period: May / June / July / August / September / - On the wing May – September.
