Taxonomy:   Macro  >>  Noctuidae ID Difficulty:  green  - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: A quiet distinctive looking moth that is uniquely marked. Two large pale grey circular disks in the central area of the wing tip are obvious. Also a large pale grey “dart shape” runs half-way down the forewing from the base. The rest of the forewing is a charcoal black. 
Distribution:  (Last record: 03/06/2024 at Long Clough )  -  A resident that is widely distributed and generally scarce and uncommon in Derbyshire. Observed in all areas of the county, mainly from the northern half of the county, except the Peak Grit area.Scarce further south.

Food Plant: Alder (Alnus glutinosa) and birch (Betula).
