ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Ground colour is a warm dark coppery brown, with a powder dusting of white, and a prominent orange kidney mark (the Brown Eye) outlined in white along with the oval mark. A white cross-line (the Bright-line) towards the outer edge has a “W” mark in the middle and white lines extending from it towards the outer edge of the wing.
Distribution: A resident that is common and widely distributed in Derbyshire. Generally common in all areas but highest numbers occur in the lowlands of the south and east.
Flight Period: May / June / July / August / - On the wing May – August
