ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: A small dart that is short and stubby. The oval mark is elongated and shaped into a shuttle, pointed at both ends. The male has pale coloured wings with a contrasting dark kidney mark and a dark area at the shoulder. Various delicate lines and spots across the forewing. Ground colour can be a sandy brown, grey-brown or dark brown.
Distribution: The first multiple records in Derbyshire were during 1976. This species is now common in the lowlands and widespread across all areas of the county.
Flight Period: May / June / July / August / September / - On the wing May – September.

Food Plant: Various herbaceous plants, grasses, and occasionally on low-growing shrubs.
