ID Difficulty:
- easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Tiny but distinctive with a golden thorax and a white head. Three white cross bands on otherwise golden forewings.
Distribution: This little moth was not recorded in Britain until 1982. So few records so status in Derbyshire is currently unknown. It is spreading north and west in Britain.
Flight Period: May / June / - On the wing in May & June.
Mine Period: September / October / November / December / - The larvae Mine the leaves of garden conifers
Moth Activity: Cathemeral - and is attracted to light
