– Uncertain/Unknown – Insufficient Data
– Leaf-miner
– Day-flying
– care required in the identification process, as confusion with similar species is likely – quality photographs required. Confusion Species: Very similar to other species of Eriocrania
Mine Period Additional: Mine is easier to identify if larva present (tenanted)
Mine ID Difficulty:
– Mine cannot be identified without breeding through and then adult may need to be examined by Gen Det Prep. Mine Type/s: Gallery, Blotch
Mine Feeding Method/s: Not Recorded
Mine Comment: With the exception of E. sparrmannella it is the latest of the birch-feeders. There is an accumulation of Frasse in the interior of the leaf where the mine first starts, and is deposited in long, characteristic spaghetti-like threads. The larvae are specialists that feed exclusively on the leaves of birch trees. The mine starts in the middle or interior of the leaf, frequently near the midrib as a linear gallery. It gradually widens into a massive, clear blotch that spreads toward the outer edge of the leaf.

Bedrock Geology ** indirectly affects moth distribution by influencing the type of habitat and food plants available in an area. In turn, this may affect the types of moths that can thrive, or where they can most likely be found.
