ID Difficulty: - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: An important feature is the cross-line on forewing beyond the middle, which is fine, strongly- kinked near the leading edge, more or less straight towards trailing edge and a dot in each vein. Ground colour a greyish-brown.
Distribution: A resident and common species that is widely distributed throughout Derbyshire. Little colour variation throughout the county.
Flight Period: June / July / August / September / - On the wing June – September
Moth Activity: Nocturnal - and is attracted to light

Food Plant: Hawthorn (Crataegus) and Ivy (Hedera).
