Taxonomy:   Macro  >>  Noctuidae Other Name/s: Sunira circellaris ID Difficulty:  green  - easy to identify, generally distinctive and unlikely to be confused with other species.
ID pointers: Variable in ground colour usually light browns, greyish or pinkish browns or reddish browns. One half of the kidney mark is black. A fairly obvious oval, plain centred and outlined darker. Usually darker coloured cross lines and bands that vary in colour intensity. The outer can be edged with red or light yellow lines.
Distribution:  (Last record: 10/11/2024 at Cromford )  -  A resident that is widely, but locally distributed and become generally uncommon in Derbyshire. Has been recorded from all areas of the county and was generally common until Dutch Elm disease drastically reduced the moths food plant. Many hundreds used to be trapped in the late 50’s but now only tens at a time in a season.
