Gracillariidae – Lithocolletinae – Phyllonorycter acerifoliella – Maple Midget
STATUS – A common species across much of England where the food plant, Acer campestre (Filed Maple) is natively established. Status in Derbyshire unknown, but most probably common.
ID POINTERS – A Leaf-miner – One of three Acer feeding phyllonorycters. An attractively marked small white micro, with brown strigulae, bordered with black and forming three distinct angular fascia.
Usually a small mine found in the lobe of the leaf causing the lobe to fold inwards. Found on Acer campestre (Field Maple)
FLIGHT PERIOD – On the wing during May & August
MINE – July – more commonly in September & October
